WELCOME
Bark In The Woods 101 is a hiking service where dogs can unleash their inner explorer on beautiful trails.
About
My name is Julia Balsam and my passion for dogs & the outdoors inspires me to offer dog walking & hiking services to your beloved furbaby.
Having lived in NJ, NY and now in Fairfield, CT for the past 3 years, I have been hiking all over the Tri-State Area and love touring countless gorgeous hiking places. My own dog and my clients' dogs are my steady companions on these hikes.
I strongly believe that exercise and being in nature is not just important for our own physical and mental health, but is especially crucial for our four-legged friends. As a mother of two (humans) and a dog, I understand how challenging it can be to find time for everything that needs to be done in a day. So let me give your dog(s) what they need & deserve by offering adventurous hikes so that you can focus on other aspects of your (probably busy) life.
I had the pleasure of working with multiple certified dog trainers over the years. Thus, my training goes beyond the basic obedience dog training and includes on-leash, off-leash, and the safe & correct use of electronic collars.

How It Works
Overall it is a pretty simple process:
-
Reach Out: You can simply text, call or email me about your interest
-
Meet & Greet: We will agree on a date & time to meet prior to any commitments so we can all get to know each other (this is free of charge)
-
Waiver: Time to sign the waiver
-
Plan a Hike: If everything goes well and we all feel comfortable after the meet & greet, I will plan a hike with your pup
-
After Hike: I will text you an update on where we have been & how everything went. You will also receive pictures of your dog occasionally.
-
Last but not Least: Repeat :)

There may be no better way to communicate what I do than through images. As you browse my site, take a few moments to let your eyes linger here, and see if you can get a feel for how much your dog(s) would enjoy trips to the woods.

“My lab lady would destroy our house due to separation anxiety and high energy but Julia's hikes have changed her and our lives for the better in multiple ways! So grateful for her reliable dog walking services."
Shannon P.
"My little boy has the best time on his hikes! Not to mention I feel so much less guilt now that I know he gets a break from being home alone on my longer work days. It's a win-win."
David M.
“Truly the best decision we've made for our dog. He lost some much-needed lbs and is in better physical health than he has ever been. He also barks much less at home on days he is out on hikes and walks for hours with Julia.”
